All About Mrs. Lahner! My name is Allison Lahner (formally Allison Freeh) and I am really excited to be working at Edison for my eighth year! I spent my first year student teaching in both a 1st/2nd grade HGT classroom and well as in a 4th grade HGT classroom. After completing my student teaching, I was hired on by Edison as a 1st grade teacher, where I remained for seven years. In the spring of last year, with hopes of furthering my professional career I decided to move on to teach 2nd grade, I'm very excited to continue to challenge myself everyday. Now a little bit about how I found myself at Edison… I was born and raised in Aurora, Colorado- once I graduated high school I wanted to experience something different so I moved to Eugene, Oregon to attend the University of Oregon (GO DUCKS!) where I received my Bachelor of Science in Planning, Public Policy, and Management with a Minor in Communication Studies. Throughout college I nannied for a family and I found myself very interested in the child’s mental development. My friend offered to have me come help out in her 1st grade classroom from the moment I walked in the classroom I just KNEW that I had found my calling and that I was meant to be a teacher! From there, I decided to go back to school to work on my Master’s in Teaching, when starting to look at graduate schools there was never any question that I wanted to return to the beautiful sunshine of Colorado! Fast forward a few months and I found myself attending the University of Colorado-Denver as a Graduate Student and lucky for me… I was assigned to Edison to complete my student teaching and with a lot of hard work things just kind of “fell into place”. I received my Master’s in Educational Psychology in May of 2010. My years at Edison have nurtured my love of life-long learning and teaching. At Edison, I have had the opportunity to mentor Student Teachers, play an active role on the school's Student Intervention Team and School Leadership Team, continue to be a Teacher Leader, a model classroom for other teachers (inside and outside of Edison), and co-coach The Good Citizens of Edison Club. I love to continue to reflect on my teaching; while studying new research and implementing new practices in my classroom. Believe it or not I do have interests outside of school-- Read below to find out what I spend my time doing outside of Room 213!
